    Jones|Carter is an award-winning, full-service civil engineering, planning, surveying, and professional consulting firm assisting public and private sector clients in design, development, implementation, and execution of infrastructure projects. For over 40 years, we have assisted our clients in a variety of projects including water and wastewater treatment plants, storm drainage, transportation, planning, construction management, and surveying. We have 9 locations across Texas: Houston, Plano, Forth Worth, Austin, The Woodlands, Rosenberg, College Station, Katy, and San Antonio. We currently employ over 450 experienced design professionals and support staff with plans for continued expansion and growth in our future.

     

    REQUIRED LICENSE:

    Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Texas or ability to obtain or transfer within 6 months of hire date.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepares engineering documents including standard design plans, technical proposals, engineering studies, analyses, reports and specifications for multifamily land development projects.
    • Reviews construction documents, specifications and construction estimates and prepares construction schedules for all aspects of land development projects, including paving, utilities, drainage, water supply, and wastewater treatment.
    • Leads the technical design review and analysis of project deliverables: Reviews specifications for accuracy and feasibility and may refer more complex technical issues to senior engineers for resolution.
    • Directs the preparation of contract documents, manages bidding, and reviews contracts on engineering and/or construction contracts.
    • Performs and manages engineering feasibility studies for land development clients.
    • Implements and monitors established project plans: monitors and administers schedules, budgets, costs, and resources required to complete assigned engineering project deliverables to quality and project parameters. Identifies, resolves or escalates operational problems to minimize delays. Maintains records and reviews expenditures in order to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
    • Coordinates activities of outside sub-consultants to ensure integration with project deliverables and quality requirements.
    • Provides client support: Builds relationships and knowledge of their operating environments. Communicates regularly with internal stakeholders on progress and changes, and may present to external clients and/or provide technical expertise and support during the execution of projects and proposals.
    • Builds and maintains relationships within and between project teams: works collaboratively to ensure that technical, quality, cost and client requirements are implemented.
    • May mentor and supervise the work of a small team of engineers and design professionals and engage in activities to build team strength. These include input to recruiting, selection and performance management processes.
    • May assist internal departments with business development activities.
    • Acts as a technical advisor to other staff members.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or a related engineering or science field;
    • 4 years of increasingly responsible, professional experience designing residential land development projects, including grading, streets, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and water distribution preferably in the Houston area;
    • Valid TX driver’s license and insurable driving record

    Competencies

    • Engineering skills: Good technical skills and critical thinking, with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and contextually. Experience supervising and coordinating drafting and CAD tasks. Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus.
    • Accountability: Able to self-manage, results oriented, and delivers to scheduled deadlines. Responsible for work planning and performance.
    • Initiative: Works with minimal supervision to defined objectives. Able to identify priorities, balance workload, and organize work to meet deadlines.
    • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills: Clear, concise technical writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively to clients, contractors, other external agencies and team members both within own team and between teams.
    • Interpersonal skills: Works collaboratively. Respects, listens to and engages others and exercises judgement in approaches to resolving conflict.
    • Project skills: Demonstrates solid project knowledge and is able to apply competency - with minimal to no guidance - on large scale projects of high complexity. Experience coordinating planning/platting, environmental, surveying, CAD, geotechnical, water supply, wastewater treatment, and construction tasks.
    • Decision Making: Uses critical thinking, good technical sense and organizational values to make decisions involving some degree of ambiguity.
    • Leadership: Demonstrates ethics and integrity, able to follow direction as well as work independently, builds and maintains relationships and work collaboratively to get results.
    • Candidate must be flexible to work overtime, as required, with little or no notice.

    POSITION TYPE AND HOURS OF WORK

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Friday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

     

    This position requires working overtime as needed.

     

    TRAVEL

    Occasional, non-routine travel may be required.
