    This position is ideal for a current instrument operator who has aspirations to move into a Crew Chief role.

    • Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys.
    • Transmits survey data to the proper files in the computer network, and can acquire the data for field use.
    • Calls out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook.
    • Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.
    • Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain.
    • Marks measuring points with keel (marking crayon), paint sticks, scratches, tacks, or stakes.
    • Places stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation.
    • Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey.
    • Responsible for job specific quality system tasks as defined in quality manual


    • Minimum of a high school/GED diploma
    • 2+ year's experience in the surveying industry with experience using Trimble GPS Equipment is a plus.
    • Must have a valid driver's license.
    • Familiar with and able to operate all the instrumentation required for the collection or distribution of survey data (total station, data collector, level) is a plus.
    • Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide and perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance and understand algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
    • The employee is required to: stand, walk, use hands, tools, controls, reach with arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as well as lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • This position regularly works in a variety of outside weather conditions and occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
    • The preferred candidate will be an excellent communicator, assertive problem-solver and action-oriented team player. Must have a relentlessly positive, flexible, do-whatever-it-takes attitude; must be fast on your feet, poised under pressure, and committed to client service.
