    Position Summary

    Responsible for leading engineering design and permitting activities for Site Development projects. Plans and executes on commercial, industrial, retail, office, multi-family, and mixed-use projects using established standards and ensures compliance to codes and regulations. This position works independently, with limited supervision from senior engineers or managers, to deliver projects of small to moderate scope.  The incumbent may lead, instruct and/or coach other professionals.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepares a range of engineering documents including standard design plans, technical proposals, engineering studies, analyses, reports and work specifications.
    • Performs the design tasks for a wide range of site development projects. These may include:
      • Contract development and oversight
      • Program/project planning development and management methodologies
      • Performing or coordinating plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
      • Evaluating and making recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project construction phasing plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
    • Reviews construction documents, specifications and construction estimates and may prepare construction schedules.
    • Leads the technical design review and analysis of project deliverables: Reviews specifications for accuracy and feasibility and may refer more complex technical issues to senior engineers for resolution.
    • Directs the preparation of contract documents, manages bidding, and reviews contracts on engineering and/or construction contracts.
    • Implements and delivers engineering tasks for project plans:
      • Monitors and administers schedules, budgets, costs, and resources required to complete assigned engineering project deliverables to quality and project parameters.
      • Identifies, resolves or escalates operational problems to minimize delays.
      • Maintains records and reviews expenditures in order to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
    • May coordinate activities of outside sub-consultants to ensure integration with project deliverables and quality requirements.
    • Provides client support that's typically internally focused:
      • Builds relationships and knowledge of their operating environments.
      • Communicates regularly with internal stakeholders on progress and changes, and may present to external clients and/or provide technical support during the execution of projects and proposals.
    • Builds and maintains relationships within and between project teams: works collaboratively to ensure that technical, quality, cost and client requirements are implemented.
    • May mentor and lead the work of a small team of engineers and design professionals and engage in activities to build team strength, including input to recruiting, selection and performance management processes.
    • May assist internal departments with business development activities.
    • May act as a technical advisor for other staff members.

    TRAVEL

    Occasional travel may be required.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, electrical, or related engineering.
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Texas or ability to obtain or transfer within 6 months of hire date.
    • AutoCAD experience.
    • Valid TX driver’s license and insurable driving record.
    • Experience in Civil 3D preferred.
    • Solid technical skill foundation and critical thinking capabilities. 
    • Ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and contextually.
    • Able to self-manage, results oriented and delivers on scheduled deadlines.
    • Ability to identify priorities, to provide guidance to the manager on balancing workload, and organizing work to meet deadlines.
    • Clear, concise technical writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively to clients, contractors, other external agencies and team members both within own team and between teams.
    • Works collaboratively: respects, listens to and engages others and exercises judgement in approaches to resolving conflict.
    • Demonstrates solid project knowledge and is able to apply competency, with minimal to no guidance, on medium scale projects of regular complexity.
    • Uses critical thinking, good technical sense, and organizational values to make decisions involving some degree of ambiguity.
    • Demonstrates ethics and integrity, able to follow direction as well as work independently, builds and maintains relationships, and works collaboratively to get results.
